Sometimes the Follow-Up Is Hard
March 25, 2008 by Veronica Mitchell
I’ve been having a little difficulty coming up with a fitting new post after the latest kerfuffle. I’ve wanted to write something less controversial, but I haven’t been able to strike the right tone. Az the Husband, always helpful, has suggested a number of topics, any one of which would draw massive amounts of hate-email and/or possibly get me investigated under the Patriot Act.
Thanks, honey.
Instead, I am going to respond to a meme that edj at Planet Nomad tagged me for. The idea is to list a number of my favorite posts - posts of my own, that is - according to the following categories: friends, family, me, something I love and a wild card selection.
Now this is a bit tricky. I unwittingly attracted a lot of hostile attention recently, and it’s still going on. Pointing out particular posts when I am still receiving personal attacks seems a little foolhardy. But, I tell myself, it’s all out there on the internet anyway, so I might as well. I can deal with the abuse if you can, dear readers.
So here goes.
Friends - I don’t write about my friends much, partly to keep things anonymous, and partly because I try not to tell other people’s stories. So I really have no posts in this category, except for the one about the time I met Antique Mommy.
Family - I have always been partial to my post about Our Couch and the one about nursing my third baby. I have also long thought that if I could accurately convey my mother in words, I would have the world’s most popular blog. Instead, you only get my brief, inadequate descriptions of her. Also, my birthday roasts of my sister and my brother were great fun.
Me - Isn’t my whole blog about me? I’m not sure I can pick one for this category.
Something I love - I suppose the best choice would be books. I wrote my second post ever about our books, but the bookish posts that stick in my head most are those that followed a dashed-off list: the list, the demurral and the meme. Feel free to revive the meme if it captures your interest.
Wild card - Hmm. This one. I think it almost made my brother regret reading my blog.
So now for tags. I tag Sue, Riley and Melanie. Give it a shot.

I love all of your posts, heartily and without reservation. If I quoted my husband directly, I would have a much more controversial blog as well, as well as suddenly having a very smutty blog.
I really loved your post about your mom - and your birthday roast of your brother was great. Wait - you did one for your SISTER? Off to check that out.
Can I just say some people need to pull the stick out of their butts and let things slide. How childish. If they don’t like it…don’t read it. Losers.
Oh and I think your hubby may need to shut up. He’s causing the rukus.
Just kidding!
I think your second post ever may have been the moment that I fell in love with you and your blog. Funny that I didn’t comment on it.
I can’t believe that the broohaha is still going on. I’m glad that your good humor is still in place.
I am so thrilled to be chosen as your “friends” post, even if it is by default — although I must say your tryptich (sorry if I’ve misspelled that) was fabulous and so well done.
I just went back and read a few of the posts you mentioned (being a new-ish reader of your blog, I hadn’t seen them the first time around), and I must tell you that I loved your post about nursing your third baby so much that I linked to it on my blog. I will be nursing a third baby of my own in a few short months, and your post helped me to remember how soothing caring for a newborn can be at times. Lately I’ve been tending to remember the not-so-soothing moments that newborns cause, and fretting a bit about how I’ll handle having three, so your post gave me a bit of much-needed encouragement.
Thanks for playing
I enjoyed reading (in most cases, re-reading) your old posts as well. I must say, however, that many of my fav posts didn’t make the list of your favs. Tastes differ, I guess.
(I was hoping for your 12 Days of Christmas series. )
Planetnomad, I thought, given the hostile hordes descending upon me, that I would leave the faith posts out of this list. My reasons are probably clear to you without explaining.
Not to worry. The hostile hordes will gallumph off somewhere else in due time. They’re fickle like that.
Oooh, I definitely want to do this meme…. riiiiiiiiight after we move. Ish. This move is taking the wind out of my blogging sails.
Off to read your wonderful links now. Now reading YOUR posts, that’s something I can definitely get behind. ;>
