Being a Student Again, Even for Three Weeks, Means I Have Returned to My Procrastinating Roots

January 14, 2008 by Veronica Mitchell

Instead of studying, I have been:

  • watching old movies on YouTube, like Shop Around the Corner, Sullivan’s Travels and To Catch a Thief.
  • voting on baby name lists at babynames.com (just click on one of the links under “New Name Lists”). I always try to vote yes on at least one of the names a parent likes. I vote for names that are easily spelled and pronounced, and are not in the yuppie lemming top 10.
  • considering whether to choose a presidential candidate based entirely on which one misuses the word “literally” the least.
  • sweeping the floor.  This is not strictly a waste of time, but it could wait till after my homework is done.
  • admiring my brand new socks.  They are so comfy and classy looking.

All this not-studying is very tiring.  I think I need to go to bed.

I love old movies! To Catch A Thief is one of my all time favorites!

I am already such a procrastinator and now you have just given me one more thing to procrastinate (babynames.com) with!

My friends could always tell when I had a big paper or test, because my dorm room was totally clean.

Thanks so much for the link to Shop Around the Corner! You’ve Got Mail is one of my favorite movies, and I’ve been meaning to rent the original… now I can watch it at my leisure, in eleven installments, instead of cleaning my house.

I think that admiring new socks should always be on the top of the list. In fact, why am I commenting when I have yet to admire my socks today?

Ahhh, my old college hobgoblin, Procrastination.

Paper due? Look at all this laundry!

Project deadline? You know, I’ve never made Beef Burgundy!

Final exam? My sock drawer really should be organized by color. And, yes, CLASSY SOCKS need their own section.

    Now, go study. Literally.

Some of those names are so awful I couldn’t vote.

    Merlyn Aubri-Ana

    Kylar Ainslie

    Graesyn Fisher

Thanks for the heads-up though. You know I am going to have to make up a fake list of my own.

    Veronica,
Weighing your vote for President on the use of the word “literally” leaves me in stiches. I’ll remember that in case I ever need your vote, or can I count on family loyalties from you and Az overriding our political policy disagreements?

Truly amazing how underhanded they can be to their opponents through their surrogates and then claim “It wasn’t me, I’m running a positive campaign.”

I won’t be voting in the primary, but generally have a positive opinion of one candidate from each party. Since I have yet to vote for the eventual nominee when I have voted in a primary, I take my support to mean they have 0 chance of winning their party nominations.

Brother, if you ever do run for public office, you will need to let me know in plenty of time to take down the embarrassing parts of this blog. Let a reporter loose on my blog and I will be the Roger Clinton of the family. No thanks.

    LITTLE SHOP AROUND THE CORNER!
Excuse me, all of my plans for today have been put on hold. Must. Watch. Old. Movies. Now.

I remember as a student that if I put the study material into the blonde recepticle too soon, it would leak out before test time thereby wasting valuable sock gazing time. So I waited until almost the last minute to study to avoid brain leakage. And then the second the test was over, all the not-that-useful stuff that I memorized leaked out on it’s own.

I should have received college credit for procrastination.

oh no. a new way to procrastinate with baby names. i finally weaned myself from the babycenter name boards, and now…you give me this. egad!

somebody come look for me in a few weeks, okay? i’ll be hungry by then.

And now I’m procrastinating at the office doing exactly the same things. I’m really enjoying voting on baby names. It is amusing to see some of the things people are picking. Some of the names I can’t figure out how to pronounce they are that oddly spelled. One of the lists has “Teighlyr”. Hopefully the voting will convince the parents to go with something else.

crap…now i’m never going to get anything done, either!

I always find that the only time my house gets really really clean is when I’m putting something else off.

Movies are good, baby names are fun. But new socks? Please share – what kind are they? Do we get a photo? I love the feeling of new socks!

You are my new favorite blog simply for pointing me to that “literally” website.

If you have not seen the Mad TV literally sketches you are missing out.

Just a little more help procrastinating.

I love all three of those movies; how could you NOT watch?

  19. on January 15, 2008 at 11:05 pm maggie

Would you like to come and sweep my kitchen floor?

What are you in school for?
