But I’m taking direction from Iguana Banana. She suggested we try to write our own blues songs. Here’s mine, in honor of the holiday weekend.
Woke up this morning and couldn’t get out of bed.
Woke up this morning and couldn’t get out of bed.
Stuffed full of turkey dinner, tryptophan had gone to my head.
If it wasn’t for my children, I’d have stayed in bed all day.

But the baby started screaming, and the toddler had to pee.
Had a table full of dishes, dirty from the night before.

Better hurry up and clean them - mother-in-law is at the door.
Family over for Thanksgiving leaves a mother tired and cross.

One more day of spoiled kid tantrums - I’ll have permanent hearing loss.
And you?

May I recommend ear plugs? I by catering cartons of the darned things. I don’t shove them deep into my ears but just enough to take the edge off the higher pitched screams and the lower toned growls.
Cheers
Trapped at the in-laws stuffed full of pie
5 screaming kids and nowhere to hide
Rum in my suitcase just to get by
Two more days til my 10 hour drive
I’ve got the Too Much Family Blues
In Afghanistan, chosen by Uncle Sam to spend
Turkey Day without family or close friend
Praying alone for my daughter’s broken arm to mend
Wondering how wife, in-laws and grandchildren blend
At mealtime without their daddy to lend
An ear or a hand. Instead I trust to tend
Them to the One who is faithful to the end.
I’ve got the no family blues
brother
LOL…that’s great!!

Using My Words
I would write one, but apparently you cannot have the blues if you live in Canada. That is without a doubt the very first time I have seen someone lump Canada and Hawaii together in the same category. They obviously have not visited in the winter.
Plus, who can top brother’s? Maybe Canada and Hawaii aren’t so far apart after all.
Nice job! You need to borrow John for some guitar work on that.
We did our best to clean up before bed… but we did sleep on the couch until 1am before we touched the kitchen.
Love it. You wrote a great blues song—and nobody got shot or made a deal with the devil.
Gretchen isn’t really a good blues name, either.
Polkas have lyrics, right?
