Posts Which I Have Spared You

October 5, 2007 by Veronica Mitchell

Just a taste of the posts that I stopped somewhere between my brain and the publish button, because they were awful and I care about you.

You’re welcome.

1. A White Midwestern Housewife Blogs About The Jena 6

2. Postmodernity Postmodernism and Christian Faith – I actually typed up half of this one but it was booooring.

3. Meme: Ten Literary Characters I Would Totally Make Out With If I Were Single and They Were Real But I’m Not, Single I Mean, I Am Real, But I’m Also Happily Married and Want to Stay That Way So Maybe We Should Forget This

4. My Insight into the Japanese-American Experience Based on One Book I Read – oh, I know. I don’t know how you will live without all the wisdom I have to offer on that one.

5. History of My Body Weight – I wasn’t real tempted to publish this.

6. The Fall of Western Civilization As Evidenced by the Decline in the Quality of Stationery – Have you ever known people who get really boring when they talk about things they are passionate about? That is exactly how I am about paper goods for letter-writing. I go on and on. I maintain more eye contact than anybody’s looking for. A vein in my temple begins to bulge. And maybe I spit a little.

Those were real. I actually deleted some drafts as I wrote that.

Again – you’re welcome.

oh you’re funny! i’m sure they would have been just as great as all your other posts. well, maybe not the one on the japanese american experience. but the others, totally readable.

The white midwestern housewife blogging about the Jena 6 made me cackle.

  3. on October 5, 2007 at 7:43 am Joy, of course

Maybe we should take a vote on which one we would like you to resurrect. I vote for the literary characters. :)

  4. on October 5, 2007 at 8:01 am Marie

You should post the last one. I love reading about something someone’s really passionate about, and the dearth of quality stationary from any but the most exclusive, expensive stores is something I’ve been aggravated by. I’d love to know how that relates to the fall of western civilization.

And I’d like to read your take on postmodernism and the Christian faith. I’ve been reading books about that lately.

See, now you just whet our appetites.

  5. on October 5, 2007 at 8:16 am Rebecca

YES about quality stationary. I’m forcing my husband to make me some for Christmas.
This was an EXCELLENTLY HILARIOUS post.

  6. on October 5, 2007 at 9:10 am chrissy

Oh, this is soooo funny. And I never would have thought about the stationary, so you have given me something new to ponder.

I spent an hour writing about The War documentary on PBS, published it, and then ran back and unpublished it after I came to my senses about how excessively nerdy and boring it was (my post, not the documentary).

Now I am wondering about the literary characters. Mr. Darcy?

  7. on October 5, 2007 at 9:37 am chantellabella

I have to say I am curious about Postmodernity/Postmodernism and Christian Faith and the snoggable literary characters, but I am pretty okay with missing out on the stationery tirades.

Veronica! Too funny! You know we would probably read and LOVE all of those posts. Thank you for thinking of us anyway.

  9. on October 5, 2007 at 11:17 am Luisa

I also want #2 and the last one. #3 made me laugh out loud. Excellent post: I am in awe.

  10. on October 5, 2007 at 11:54 am Mrs. Who

Well. I might actually be kind of interested in the literary characters one. I’m mulling over some pretty sexy individuals as I write. Isn’t it odd that no matter what strange and boring thing you might think of to write about – there is always someone out there who would be interested in reading it?

  11. on October 5, 2007 at 12:22 pm bubandpie

Veronica! I really, really want to read the Literary Characters Make-out meme (and you can tag me if you want to!). The postmodernism one sounds good too.

(On my delurking-day post this week someone asked me how I decide which ideas are good enough to actually blog about and my answer was that I blog them all eventually: the ones I reject as dumb one week always end up cropping up a week or two later when I run out of new ideas.)

  12. on October 5, 2007 at 12:33 pm DaniGirl

I too want to see the resurrection of the Literary Characters Make-Out meme, and even if you don’t I’m so stealing the idea for the cold, dark days of NaBloPoMo!!

  13. on October 5, 2007 at 1:15 pm Blog Antogonist

Well, ummmm, I actually thought all of those sounded pretty interesting! But, you wouldn’t believe some of the posts I’ve scrapped so don’t read too much into my opinion.

And yes, I really want to read the literary make-out meme as well. Only true bibliophiles can fall in lust with fictional people. You can tag me too.

  14. on October 5, 2007 at 5:07 pm Sherri Edman

Delurking to plead: tag me for the literary characters meme! That you’ve scrapped.

    *sigh*

I, too, would be interested to see what you have to say about posmodernity and the Christian faith; I’m working up a class to teach at my church next spring on that very topic.

  15. on October 5, 2007 at 6:04 pm lotus76

    Stationary, huh?

    Hm.

  16. on October 5, 2007 at 8:11 pm Eve

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! HAH!!! HA HA HA!!!!!!

    Made me spit,
    Eve

P.S. Bring on the stationary one!

P.P.S. And the literary characters one.

  17. on October 5, 2007 at 8:51 pm Mary Joan Koch

You are so funny. I vote for the literary characters as well. I didn’t date in high school, but I had very sexy fantasies about Mr. Darcy, Ivan Karamazov, and John F. Kennedy. I suspect I chose the better path:)

  18. on October 5, 2007 at 11:05 pm thetardyteacher

I think the literary characters are good – Or you could make it choices – Rhett Butler or Ashley Wilkes, …. um… yeah, I’m out of options already…

  19. on October 5, 2007 at 11:08 pm Shannon @ Rocks In My Dryer

Oh, no REALLY. Resurrect #3. Mr. Darcy, baby. And Gilbert Blythe.

  20. on October 6, 2007 at 9:13 am maggie

as regards #6, i believe we spent more on the handmade paper and letterpress work for the invitation to our wedding than we spent for the entire rest of the event. so, i understand completely.

Oh, there are some serious soulmates here! I, too, love stationery. I have a truly obscene collection of the stuff, plus assorted wax seals, signets, fountain pens, and the like.

P.S. I realize this is like telling you where to get the really cheap crack, but did you know they sell tons of deeply discounted, really lovely stationery at Tuesday Morning? You’re welcome.

  24. on October 13, 2007 at 8:32 pm Riley

I really like the premise of number six. In fact, if you don’t post that, I might steal that idea. Would you mind?

As for number four, that was the actual subject matter of my senior thesis (although I did read more than one book).

  25. on October 16, 2007 at 12:49 am Sue

Where have you been all my life? Hilarious.
