Link Round-up

A scandalous essay from Theodore Dalrymple, a non-religious person, claiming that religion inspires more goodness in people than non-religion (hat tip to Wittingshire).
If you are a working mom or consider becoming one, check out the series that Becky at deepmuckbigrake.com is doing on Working Mother magazine’s list of so-called best companies for working mothers. Here’s her article introducing the subject after last year’s list, and her first article on this year’s list.
On Leslie Bennetts - Becky wrote the most careful analysis of the book here (it’s how I found her blog in the first place). On the humorous side, AlphaDogMa wrote a hilarious open letter to Bennetts.
On Bill Maher and breastfeeding, there are a couple of amusingly altered Bill Maher pictures at Needs New Batteries. And if you read only one post on this whole debacle, read Julie Pippert’s.

Theodore Dalrymple is a freaking genius but I find him too depressing to read with any frequency.
Excellent links.
I was struck by a common thread that ran through each article, tolerance and respect for other’s belief systems and choices is sorely lacking. Intolerance seems to fall on either side of the political fence with equal measure, and with viciousness and vengence that is just plain wrong.
People are not statitics. All the data in the world cannot make a decision for any human being. We can make facts and figures dance and twist to say and mean anything to support our own beliefs.
In the words of my Granddad, an old Texas farmer, “Everyone needs to mind their own dang bidness! “
Thanks for the pointer to Deep Much Big Rake…I liked her posts on Working Mother.
