Show-and-Tell Tuesday: Weeding the Spice Bed
July 31, 2007 by Veronica Mitchell
Having children is hard on a garden. I never wanted a garden until I was pregnant with my first baby. Nurturing that life inside me made me want to make the world more beautiful for her. We bought a house and I planted many things.
I have three children now, and with each baby, my attention to the garden wanes. My youngest is three months old, and I hadn’t weeded anything since before she was born. Our spice bed was scary, not to mention a little trashy. That’s an upside-down bucket and some loose garden edging you see there.
This week I finally got to do some weeding, no doubt to the relief of my longsuffering neighbors. I was pleasantly surprised at how many plants survived my gross neglect.
The St. John’s Wort is blooming.
The lavender is thriving.
The lovage is thick and hardy. If only I knew what to do with it.
And here is my spice bed, weeded at last.

Have you finished a project you want to show? Pieces hosts Show-and-Tell every Tuesday.

You inspired me to show our recent project. Love the idea of show and tell tuesday.
Your spice bed looks good!
All for His glory, ~Rhen
Where do you find the time? Your energy level has picked up amazingly in the last three months. Love your spice bed — and that it survived while you were busy elsewhere.
Nicely done!
My mother-in-law used to make a beefy tomato soup that uses lovage. She’s vegan now, but I’m sure she still has the recipe if you want it.
Wow! Great work! Having recently waded through weeds just to get to my front door, I am very impressed with the fruits of your labor.
Julie, I would love the recipe!
I hear tell lovage is just used like celery, leaves and ribs. Soups, salad, etc. Probably good with hummus. I have got to get more of an herb garden happening!
